St. Croix Avid rods?

Who can tell me about St. Croix Avid flyrods. Any experience with them pro or con would be helpful. Thanks.

Lew

i have 2 st croix avid rods - one is a 6 wt 4pc 9’that i use for trout on big rivers out west and the other is a 3 wt 2 pc 6’ that i use one small streams in the catskills.

i have used both rods quite a bit and have no complaints with either one.

i also like the fact that the are made in the UNITED STATES.

Our local fly shop owner has been raving about the Avids since last Sept’s retailers show. My buddy Ralph just finished building an Avid 3-wt, 4-pc, 7’9", but we are all iced over up here in the mtns and he hasn’t fished it yet. We might be able to go for bass down in town next month – he’ll certainly post a review as soon as he gets some fishin’ time on the new Avid. DANBOB

I’ve a 4 wt 4 peice, very nice fit and finish. Casts like a dream. Been on one trip with it and it handled medium sized trout great.

When I was playing with it pre purchase I thought it was a 2 peice, so well fitted.

One other thought…design change meant older “Avids” have been on discount. Mine is the “new” pattern.

I have a 7ft 2pc 3wt Avid that I’ve fished for about 6 months and I love it. It’s a greta rod for the type of fishing I do from time to time.

Well, Cabelas has them on sale now, and I jumped in and ordered a 7’6", 3wt. $130 bucks plus shipping. I don’t know if it’s the old style or the new, but, I figure I can’t get hurt too bad.
Thanks for the input.

I have a new 2006 9’ 6wt 4pc. They are now using IPC in the Avid series. I have not done any fishing with it yet, but what few yard casts I’ve made, I think I am going to like this rod allot.

@ $130 it’s the old Avid…@$200 it’s the ipc.

I love my pre IPC Avids! 8’6" 4pc. 5wt & 6’6" 3pc. 4wt. Have Barstocks on both and they hardley weigh anything.
