Squirrel Flymph/Nymph

Didn’t want to take away from OK’s great nymph pattern, but was thinking that, although the rabbit/hare is no longer considered a rodent, like the squirrel, they both make good wet fly/nymph patterns.

This is a tad different from Whitlock’s great pattern. Used Whitlock’s SLF dubbing mix.

It sort of harkens back to Charlie Brooks’ method of tying nymph patterns “in the round” instead of having a distinct wing case. His theory was that the nymphs rolled over and over and thus, the legs were usually exposed…at least his rationale for not including a wing case.

I like the colors. I’ll have to add a few to my box during Winter tying. I only do good in one place here in PA with Whitlock’s Fox Squirrel Nymph. In sizes 8 or 10 it works as a stonefly for me on one of my local streams.

Dagnabbit! Now I gotta start tying up squirrel versions

That’s a really nice looking bug, Byron!

Allen,
I can just hear Elmer Fudd saying that!
