Y’all have been great helps with the squirrel thing. I have heard it mentioned that it, shaved squirrel fur, was difficult to dub. So, I am asking, since I have a tub o’ tails, could I just trim tail hair to about 1/2" and would that be easier to dub? I have enough tails, and can get more fairly easily, it seems that might be better. However, being a newbie and never having dubbed or really have any idea what it is, that might appear/be silly. Y’all advice on that, THANKS!
Mark squirrel tail is not usually used for dubbing. Use it for streamer wings. tails and shellbacks. Use the body hair for dubbing. Read the fly tying lessons Al Campbell wrote to learn more about dubbing.
Mark,
The body fur is slimmer and tapered differently. I don’t that you will have much success using tail hair for dubbing. You will have much more luck with the body fur which is one of my favorite dubbing materials.

I really like to use squirrel hair for dubbing. Although, as the others have pointed out, it needs to be from the body.
I am having a hard time finding olive died squirrel skins. Does anyone have a source for them?
