Squirrel Caddis

Kind of ugly, but I intend to test it in July. Squirrel back fur for wings.
The top picture uses hydropsyche tan caddis zelon dubbing. The hydropsyche is the dominant caddis in the Yellowstone area a significant portion of the year. This one is not the ordinary pattern - the elk hair - but I really think it may offer advantages.

That’ll catch some fish. Looks buggy, good tie!

Ugly is good. That thing is guaranteed to catch fish.

One of your most interesting yet!

I like it a lot. Especially the squirrel wing. What is the hackle you are using? I see I think a wire rib. Is that wool or chenille on the body?

Couldn’t find my furnace hackle, so I used grizz hackle. Yes, a gold rib and the body is a dubbing blend. I do try to get all the underfur out of the squirrel back so that only the guard hairs are used. The underfur would definitely hurt the floatability.
Thanks,
Byron

Fox squirrel has become one of my favorite materials here lately. Very buggy tie!

Well I really like it. I think I may try one out. I think it is buggy enough to get the attention of some good fish.
