ive been using the spinning technique for about 4 years now, primarily for soft hackles . really like the results , and has a side benefit of being able to use the largest feather on the neck for size 18 flies. have not tried spinning deer hair for hackling a fly yet, but based on your results it seems as if it is in my future.

Have fished many soft hackles since about 2000.
But, This is a dry fly pattern using deer hair.

To try to understand better, you are spinning deer hair for the collar rather than using hackle. Yes?
