sportsmans warehouse

well - since I haven’t tied for 4 years I have never been in a sportsman warehouse purchasing tying gear.

I think I’m in love…

I do have to say they have a pretty nice fly tying section. I’m still miffed that they refuse to carry and rod building components in the store nearest me. (now under a different name)

lets not talk about rod building yet I’ve moved back into tying, and fishing. however I haven’t started that side back up not sure the wife could handle it lol.

Just lost our local SW. I’m still in mourning, especially after going to Gander last week. :frowning:

I don’t live near one so I don’t get in them often. I heard a while back the entire chain entered bankruptcy, but I still them then in operation. I hope they don’t go under that would be too bad.

Solo, Don’t fall in love too much. They’ll just break your heart. We had a SW open close by last year in May. It went out of business in August. I had to resort to the 150 mile round trip to BPS for hands on buying, or the internet and trust buying sight unseen. I also rely on the sponsors here on FAOL as trustworthy dealers of top notch supplies. Jim

Most of the Sportsmans Warehouses out here were bought out and are now called Wholesale Sports. They don’t seem to be restocking the fly tying section. Just letting it run out.

Thank God for the local flyshops.

I was in ours a few weeks ago and It seemed to me that they have more than just before the take over, Perhaps its a store to store thing based on how much fly materials they sell.

I was in ours a week ago…could see no new fly tying inventory…asked and they denied they were discontinuing that section…we’ll see.

After Sportsman’s finished bankruptcy proceedings, they were told they still had to close a few more stores. Unfortunately, the one close to me (I pass right by it on the way home from work) was told they would close. They were one of the most profitable stores, however, their rent was also the highest of any store.

It sucks not having an easy, close, quality source for my outdoor goods now (today is their last day, and most everything was gone last weekend).

the one I was in recently was in Grand Junction I get down there periodically for work. it seems to have the doors open, and still in business.

Y’all should try living way out here where we have no fly tying stuff at all. Gander carried some basic stuff but is closing it out…I picked a great time to start tying with no place to get materials. Any suggestions where to get some at a reasonable price by mail?

Raiderhunter, Contact Ron at H&H for starters. Have you checked out the sponsor’s link here? Jim

Well, the nearest one to me is 5 hours away.
So much for that!
I have a neighbor who runs a fly fishing store a little ways away. I’d rather help him make a living.

Raiderhunter the sponsors here are all checked out to be honest and give good service, I have used hook and hackle and conranch and have nothing but praise for there service. But I wouldn’t hesitate to use any of the sponsors.

I live 40 miles from the nearest stoplight I feel your pain… more then you know.

The store in Bend, Oregon appears to be just running out the stock in the fly tying department. I asked one of the guys about it and he replied “it’s flying off the shelves faster than we can put it on.” BS. No well run department has row after row of empty hooks.

I emailed the corporate office and no response. I don’t waste the time or gas to go their anymore.

I went to Sportsman’s Warehouse yesterday. Fly Tying materials are getting even more thin. They say they are getting shipments in, but I don’t bekieve it !!! Even more thin on hook selections. Back to catalog and online ordering !!! Most of the guys at Sportsman’s don’t even know what I’m talking about most of the time (as to certain materials); same as the Orvis shop here.

It’s frustrating looking for some of this stuff. I have a Gander nearby, but althought they have some good things, some of the obvious choices in hooks seem to always be empty. Once in a great while, I’ll head down to Cabelas in West Virginia. The selection is much better but it always seems like I get home wishing that I had gotten one more thing, and thinking about the 60 mile drive.

the sportman here in portland or on 82 st is no longer a sportsman ware house and is owned by a canadain company, I found out when sportsman declared bankrupcy it made it hard to get stuff. the vender were and are worried about payment. but it is getting better sence they are not with sportsman any more. I have not been in the place sence the new signage has been put up, but the last time I was there is was getting better thou they lack much of a selction of hooks.
