spinning deer hair

have trouble spinning deer hair, bunches up on one side.
what am i doing wrong?

Could be too much hair, wrong kind of hair, improper thread torque/management, etc. Without any more info, I’d suggest looking at some vids on Youtube - here’s a good one from Davie McPhail (there’s lots more out there)

Posted this in another message about deer hair… I consider this one of the best resources on the web regarding information on deer hair.

A major problem is caused by tightening a clump of hair too tightly with the very first wrap. After placing your clump of hair against the hook make a loose wrap around the hook ending up with you pulling UPWARD on the thread in front of the hook.
Only then, let go of the hair and tighten up on the loose wrap with an upward pull. this will let the loosely held hair spin around the hook shank instead of being bound down in a clump.
At least it works for me. Good luck.
