Spinner and Plastic Fly Swap

THIS SWAP IS NOW CLOSED FOR SIGN UPS!!!

Plastics and Spinner Flies Welcome!!!

O.k. here it is for the people that have been talking about the plastics on the warmwater board. A plastics swap for the “ole bucket mouths or bronze backs”. 15 tyers with a deadline for flies in the mail by May 1st, 2005. Sign up deadline is going to be April 1st. Rules, there are none but it better have some way to attach artificial plastics and be flyrod compatible (YES I WILL ACCEPT GUMMIE MINNOWS). Also please include the plastic that you would use. Like all the other swaps this will be run in a professional manner. If you cant make the deadline or number of flies please give us enough warning so we can give our fingers a break. All flies must be mailed in a SASE package thats crush proof with toe tags with prepaid return postage. Please provide the recipe either toe tag or on the bulletin. You all will be emailed as soon as things fill up or the deadline is closed. This is the 3rd swap that I am hosting(I know its addicting) so questions, concerns or if I forget something you can send me an email. This should be a fun swap!!!

Thanks,
Seege

Thanks for biting, Seege! Put me down for a crawdaddy thing. Just throwing it out there because I’ve never done anything like this before and love the creative exercise. JGW

Like I said Ive only experimented with the plastics a few times. I know there has to be some down right professional plastic flyrodders out there. Thanks for joining White lets see how this thing goes for the sign ups.

Seege, are you limiting it to bass sized flies? My use of plastics is more targeted to bluegill. I call mine a panfish Heretic diver.

Thanks for hosting! I’d like in on this one.

I’m having a hard time deciding between a jigfly and a tubie. I’ll go for the jigfly this time and hope that somebody else ties some tubies.

Thwack

Jim,

Ya know lets open this up to all panfish so we can have some variety. Jim welcome to the swap I didnt mean to keep anyone out. Patterns can always be modified once you have something to go by so welcome.

bumping it up

Well Ive sent an email to Kds and said that he started it so he should help us finish it. Where ya at guy???..? I also thought that there would definately be more people than this jumping at the bit. I even put a spot on the warmwater board too. Oh well we have awhile for the sign up. I will check back in a few days guys.

Maybe if you also allowed some of the swappers to tie spinner flies like the ones that were shown in the thread, we’d get a few more folks (and some really cool flies).

I have never participated in a fly swap so when one says plastics is this a plastic fly or an imitation of a plastic. I would like to contribute the ice chennille bass worm.I tie this on a size 6 for gills and go larger for bass.I could include both. Please advise. Hope I’m not asking to many questions? Thanks.

O.k. with me about the spinner flies. I was going to do one of those swaps after this one as I have experimented with those also. I will email everyone else. Is there a way to change the swap name on the title board?

Seege

Rob the chartruese chenille with the gold spinner blade would be the fly I would like to see.

It’s fine with me.

Jim

Coach Robb - more details on what spawned this swap can be found in the thread at: [url=http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/Forum20/HTML/001145.html:ea03a]http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/Forum20/HTML/001145.html[/url:ea03a]

Fireman - JC can probably rename this thread if you ask him nice (and let him know what you want it to be renamed to).

A seperate spinner swap would also be fine by me (if we can get enough to fill this swap without redefining it). I’ve already dug out a pack of Mister Twister “Curly Tail Crappie Kit” and they look like just the ticket for the jig fly!

I hope it’s OK if I use a variety of colors for the plastic part of the flies I tie. I only have one of these kits and it looks like there are only 8 of any given color combination in it (5 color combinations in all plus some jig heads that tell me what size hook I should be using).

I’ll check the local fishing stores to see if they have anything about the same size though around here, they all seem to stock giant-sized stuff. I bought this pack in New Orleans during the recent Christmas holiday (flew back there to visit family).

Hey all,
count me in! I don’t know exactly what I’ll tie/make. I’ll have to check in with y’all in a few days when I get home. Right now I am away from home assisting with the arrangements and funeral for my wife’s grandmother who passed away on Saturday. So that’s why I’m a little late, Fireman but I appreciate you thinking of me and sending me and email. I should be back home on Friday or Saturday and will let y’all know soon after that what I’ll be tying/making.

I’d like to take part, too. I haven’t done much with plastics, but I’ve experimented with other heretical flies, so it’ll be fun to see what works. I’ll make some kind of grub fly–bluegill-sized (size 8, perhaps).

Oh, by the way, I’d love to try out some of the spinner flies that folks were talking about, so I’d be all for opening the swap up to spinners. Such great ideas out there!

Mike

Please count me in-- i will be making a fly rod jig and pig.

O.k. we have 8 welcome to the new swappers. We are just over half filled waiting for 7 more tyers.

Seege

I will be submitting a Chartreuse ice chenille worm. I’m still working on an in line spinner version, but the flat spot on my forhead os getting bigger as I’m still pounding my head against the wall trying to get them to work to my satisfaction. Half the fun of tying is the failures. I’ve got a whole box of dries that sink, wooblers that go straight, and a really cool flat fish imitation that insists on flipping on it’s back and surfing on the surface.
I was going to call it Robb’s little wiggler but was told name was inappropriate.
