spelling challenged????????

I have a slight learning disability, I have never learned to spell or punctuate well. I am getting better but never will I be a perfectionist.

A few months ago in another thread someone mentioned ieSpell, a spell checker that you download for free. When entering posts such as this one it is available to the writer by just right clicking on the mouse.

I am highly pleased with this product and recommend it to anyone out there that can’t remember I before E etc. I didn’t realize how much I used it until I have tried to post quickly from work where it is unavailable to me.

Thanks to whoever recommended it in that previous post.

Eric

You just helped me Eric. Thanks!

You’re Welcome, Eric:D

Fortunately, any learning disability you have hasn’t gotten in the way of communicating your point of view, your experience, your humor and your good nature.

If you feel better for using this tool, that’s great - you deserve it. And I’m sure there are others who will pick up on it because of this thread, and it will bring something of value to their lives also.

John

Thanks again Ducksterman, for the original post, I’m just sorry I took so long to download it.

John thanks for the compliments it’s great to have a site like FAOL where I can share my little knowledge, and learn so much.

Eric; Don’t know what browser you’re currently using, but if not using “Firefox”, you might take a look at it. It’s a great browser, fast, FREE and one of the options for it, it is “Spellcheck”.
Once activated, as you type on anything, here, emails, word documents, etc. when you misspell a word, it immediately “catches it”, underlines it in red then when you place your cursor over the underlined word, and “right click” it gives you the correct spelling, as well as, several variations of spelling, depending on how you’re using that particular word in a sentence.
When you select the correct spelling, simply click on it and it replaces what you’ve already typed, with the correctly spelled word!
I’d be dead in the water, without this feature on my browser, believe me!
I didn’t doo too gooderer win I tryd to leern abut “Fonix” in scool, see!

Paul,
When I switched from IE to Firefox, the Auto Spell Check launched my Vocabb you larry like you wouldn’t believe!
Doug

Eric, I apologize to you, and forgot to, in my earlier post!!
Because had you not made this post, about spelling and punctuation, believe me… I NEVER would have noticed anything, “odd or different” about the posts you’ve made!!
I always enjoy reading your comments and thoughts, on all the threads you contribute to!!! I’ve surely, NEVER had any problems understanding the points you’ve made, or the wisdom you’ve shared.

That’s weird, Duggie-Wuggie-Poo, that you say that, because I would have SWORN you told me, once that "You stopped hanging out with Vocab and Larry, both!?

Paul,
I told you to only refer to me as DWP in PM’s! :frowning: Anyway!, I told you I stopped hanging out at “Who Song & Larry’s”!!!

Spelling, good grammar, and punctuation, have always come easily for me. One of a few natural gifts that I can take no credit for. It makes it easier for those reading, to follow the thought threads that you’re trying to portray. But in the grand scheme of things, it isn’t an earth-shattering event, to mis-spell a word, or leave out a comma, or get the grammar wrong. It’s just easier for the reader to understand. He’ll eventually get the idea, if he’s truly interested in what you have to say. Here’s a small case in point:

fi yuo cna raed tihs, yuo hvae a sgtrane mnid too
Cna yuo raed tihs? Olny 55 pnecret of plepoe can.

Hang in Pard. You’ve been doing just fine. If it’s really important to you, you’ll find that the more emphasis you place, and the more you practice, toward any given thing, it will only result in improvement.

Lew I am weird like you…
I thankfully have never had problems with reading, all my troubles were in the writing department.

When you can’t read your own writing from it being so distorted it is very difficult to learn to punctuate etc.

Thanks for all the nice comments everybody

Eric

Thank you for posting that.

-The spelling biggot.

I am sorry but I have no mercy for those that can not spell simple words. Also those that have no idea of the most simple rules of grammar bother me. Especially those that got a free education in the U.S. that I paid for!

Sorry. Rant off.

Lew, I have no problems reading that. Actually I think I can read that FASTER than if it were written correctly. And I am a spelling biggot!

It wasn’t my invention, and shouldn’t be credited to me. Just passing along semi-interesting internet stuff. I won’t pass judgement on anyones grammar or spelling ability. Most people can spell simple words. Punctuation is another animal. Ability is the key. People just don’t have the same abilities and disabilities. We don’t all have the same learning opportunities either. If the ability and opportunity are present, then desire, is the next component in the equation. There are un-developed abilities and talents in each of us, and I hope someone doesn’t hold it against me because I didn’t have the desire to develop a particular talent/ability. I feel that where we fail, both as parents and educators, is instilling a burning desire to learn and explore and create. That’s why I love fishing and fly tying. It embodies all three. Just don’t ask me to sing, and shake a Maraca in rythm at the same time. I can do both, just not at the same time. I will agree, that being too lazy, or too dis-interested to learn, is not a trait to be admired. End of my rant.
