South Carolina

I was thinking about a bit of yak fishing the the Charleston area in late January/Feb. Any help on the area would be appreciated.
Some questions:
Should I haul my yak or are there rentals available?
Do I need a guide?
What can I expect fish wise that time of year?

If it 'twere me, I’d tote the yak along. No doubt there are rental places but I have no idea where and at what price.

On the James Island side of Charleston (south/west), there on James Island, you have the Charleston County Park that has great access to the salt marsh. There’s also a campground there, too. If you were to continue on down James Island to Folly Beach there’s a public boat ramp there. You could head down the Folly river (south/west) to just before the Folly
joins with the Stono River (there will be CoastGuard channel markers at that point), there wil be a sand bar (salt flats) on the right and this is a common place for spot tails (red drum). I’d fish there an hour before high tide to maybe an hour after. I’ve had luck with a clouser minnow, black matuka and a light spruce streamer. If all else fails … you could bait a plain #4 hook (God forbid!) using squid.

Good luck!
