Some fishy pics from last outing.

Had another quick solo trip this morning. The water seems to be getting cooler which is great to see and the fish are starting to move into the runs more. A while back a fly fisher mentioned that they have caught a brown in the Smallblaar river. This was met with some disbelieve as this river was stocked with only rainbows decades ago and never again. Eventually pictures emerged and since then a few angler have caught some browns. I have also caught one or two this season and landed another beauty today. We subsequently found out that a dam on the hatchery higher up broke during the winter and some browns escaped. They are all female though so there is no chance of them spawning, so we will just have to enjoy then while they last.

Some Pics

My brownie for the day.

Just look at those beautiful colours.

Also spend some time looking under rocks and found some big dragon fly Nymphs.

another nice report… thanks

Wow, great pics! Glad you got out again. Keep 'em coming.

Kelly.

Thanks Doug and Kelly

Some pics of the Smallblaar river today.

Just a quick pic of one of the flies that were working today.

Morne,

The fish pictures are great, but those of the water and surrounding countryside are just breath taking. Beautiful country you get to fish in.

Wow, my legs just started quaking after seeing that water. Bad hip and ankle be danged I want to go wade that! Thanks for sharing. I’m still shaking…

Kelly.

Been a while since I have been able to get out fishing, but with our river season closing in a week’s time a friend and I went exploring yesterday and fished a new stream (for me anyway) and had a superb day out. I will post some pics later, but in the meantime some friends and me got together and decided to stock a dam five minutes from my house to keep us going through the closed river season. Today was the first day that we fished it since the stocking and we had a excellent day and I am glad to say that the rainbows and browns are settling in nicely and we are looking forward to some quality fishing this winter. Of course it helps that I can hop into my car and be fishing five minutes later.

The dam.

We added some buses for the odd surprise.

My first fish from the dam, and a brown at that.

A friend fighting his first fish from the dam.

And the result. Check that smile

And this is my ugly mug.

… the drake is awesome.

I seem to recall that you reported a broken rod about a year ago, or was that your fishing partner’s rod ??

John

UH…Morneb, good friend, ole buddy, can I fish your dam? Pretty please? :? Nice looking fish you’ve got in that impoundment. Did you do the stocking yourselves or was there a government assist.

REE

Great fishes in that water there. Looks like they are well fed!

Anytime you are in SA you are welcome to come have a cast Ron. I will also take you for some stunning river fishing. We applied for the permits, but paid and did the stocking ourselves.

Thanks. There is plenty of food in the dam for them, so they should be getting even fatter quickly.

Morne

As promised some pics of a truly magic day on a little stream a friend and I explored last week Saterday to close of our river season.

Most of the stream is overgrown and wild and the only way to get your fly out there is with a bow and arrow cast.

Love the scenic pictures. You do have some overgrowth to contend with, don’t you? Nice fishie pictures. The underwater shot is killer, what a pretty fish.

Nice hat by the way. Looks like it’s just about getting broken in. Another couple three years and it ought to be just about right. Then someone will be after you to replace it.
