Ouch! $2500 to $15000! Maybe I should change professions.

They are really beautiful.
Luke, you tie for a living?

Nice example of form over function…which is exactly the opposite of what I want in my vise…

2x, Whatfly! Hard to be sure if we haven’t actually used one but I wonder what the actual problem is that these elaborate constructions are solving

No, Byron. You? I do some metalworking for fun and have thought about making my own vise as my old one is wearing down, but I had never thought of a market for one-off vises until I read this post.

No Luke, my profession was financial analysis. I did do some commercial tying in my spare time at one time. I took your comment about your “profession” as opposed to hobby.

Beautiful works of art and I feel sure he has included functionality and durability that can be passed on for generations. What a gift to find under the tree!

Exactly right. Well said.

The problem of the ugly fly tying vise, it’s rampant they are everywhere. Get one of these ornate vises and your wife will invite you to tye flies in the living room, when the girls are coming over.

I have never been able to understand why folks seem to be critical of beautifully crafted vises. Functionally designed vises can also be made to be beautifully crafted “devices”…

They are very nice looking tools. But it’s the same axiom as I used when I was a competitive skeet shooter. All the engraving and gold inlays do not make the shotgun shoot any better. But, they are doggone nice looking vises! A lot of work went into the engraving alone!

Yes, and if it has the same functionality and yet is much more beautiful to view, it would seem to be a good thing.

Talk about your eye candy. Those are beautiful.
