As in Hungarian Partridges - out our kitchen window about ten minutes ago.
This is the current year brood of a mated pair that we’ve had around our place for the past couple years. Eleven all together. Considering the number of cats and hawks in the vicinity, it is quite fortunate that all have survived to this point.
In case you haven’t had the opportunity to observe huns in a “domestic” setting, they are the kings of the yard and the feeding stations. No matter what other species of birds are around when they arrive, they dominate the scene and always eat where they want to eat.
Very neat. Until Bonneville Power cleared all the blackberry bushes around their towers, we had several mating pairs of Ring Neck Pheasant around here. Last year I glanced out the back window and saw a very healthy specimen of a rooster Ring Neck strutting around in the back yard. One small patch of yard in the back corner is very hard to mow or get at with a weed eater. Mr. and Mrs Ringneck had their brood right in my little patch of tall grass. Hope to see them back this year.
John, I think your pair’s cousins use to live over here near our yard. 2007 was our first year in our new home and we had a flock about the same size that would peck around in our front yard that summer before we planted grass. Here is a link to some pictures I took:
Hey John great pics, Whats the chances of me getting a couple of those hides. I tie alot of my wets with Partridge. Ha Ha Ha Every winter I have acouple pheasants show up in my yard and its neat just watching them.
