Well it is only October 12th, of 2009, and I am experiencing the 2nd snow fall in Minnesota!
This is only the 8th time, since the 1850’s, that Minnesota had significant snow fall this early in October! The weather bureau says that we have more on the way, from Colorado later this week. If this change in the weather continue, I will not have to rack the leaves until spring, and I will not have to mow the lawn until then either!
I remember the last early snow fall, in 1990,s (Year the Minnesota Twins won their 2nd World Series), when we had 18 inches of snow on Halloween, and another 18 inches three days later. That years we had snow on the ground throughout the winter months, and we did not see our lawns, until the end of April the next year.
My fly fishing season ended at the end of September, because I fish mostly for warm-water fish, around my residence in White Bear Lake. Short fishing season (End of May to End of September) but I got my time in, on the water. Fishing weekdays (retired), while everyone else are stuck in the morning “Rush Hour” heading to work!
"Minnesota! “The Land of 2 Seasons!” Winter is coming, and Winter is here!
No snow but for the second night in a row we have had frost on the pumpkin here in Skidrow Woolley.
I am doing some work in the shop/garage creating an insulated space to keep the dogs on these chilly nights. I don’t know if they know what I am up to but if they do from the looks on their faces this morning I think they want me to hurry up and finish the project.
We had 3’’ + on the ground Saturday morning, couple of light flurries since. Didn’t raise a lot of eyebrows , but I live in Embarrass. 1995 snow came on September 9 and was still there in May.
Kerry,
Our dog figured that one out on her own! She’ll work her way “into” the down comforter to the point where all you can see of her is the very top of her head. Not under, but deep into. When she gets too warm, she’ll emerge, and lay flat out on her back, legs all a kimbo, till she cools down. She’s a funny beast!
Here, in Rock River, we have a good 6 in on the ground and at least 6 inches melted. We got hit with several snow storms during the past 48 and at least one before that a week or so ago. Wishing it was Spring already!!!
The entire year has been a cool one here in the Ozarks, except for a couple weeks in June. We had a pretty heavy frost Saturday morning. I’m ready for it! I hope it gets cold enough, long enough that it freezes to death or runs off every armadillo in the county!!!
Global warming has been reversed…average, annual global temps have been dropping since '97 or '98. Makes ya wonder what the loonies will come up with next.
It’s the same here guys!!! We got a little over 2" early on Saturday morning (I’m on the far SW side of town), and it didn’t melt off completely until yesterday. We hit 19 Saturday night. To think I had planned to mow the lawn…
A lot of us here are thinking it will be a hard, heavy winter this year. Farmer’s Almanac predicts worse than '82. Yikes!!!
Been in the mid 90’s ( this past week tying or breaking the record temps ) since the past summer & heat indexes in the 100’s, but a cold front is supposed to be here Saturday dropping the daytime highs into the upper 80’s & overnight lows in the upper 60’s. Oh yeah, that’ll make me feel like a fair weather fan; bring on the polar bear club outing !
Hi Guys
It is supposedly middle to late spring in New Zealand and we have had 2’’ of snow and roads closed in the last week now predicting 5’’ rain over next 3 days and temps of 2-4 centigrade mid 30’s for the you guys. Normal temps are in the low 70’s
Cheers Steve
HA! Sounds like here … except it’s supposed to be early fall. Temps are supposed o be in the 70’s, but are reaching only to the mid 40’s for the highs. Way too much rain, too. Haven’t seen the sun in almost two weeks.
I’ve been waiting for years. There are several patterns that I haven’t been able to tye without that hair and it’s harder to come by than polar bear hair…
