Sneaky Pete

Hi,
I was reading in a fly fishing magizine this evening and heard of a fly called a “Snkeay Pete”. I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this fly and can give me a picture or some information on it?

Welcome to THE board…this is a GREAT place…hope this helps [url=http://www.questoutdoors.net/skills/ftying/patterns/topwater/sneaky/:1e0aa]http://www.questoutdoors.net/skills/ftying/patterns/topwater/sneaky/[/url:1e0aa]
I found it doing a google search for sneaky pete flies & it was the 1st selection. There were others, so you may want to try that.

I believe the “Sneaky Pete” is a commercial version of a slider. A cone shaped body with the pointed end at the hook eye so it “slides” through the water. Usually a surface fly.

Gaines makes one. Don’t know if this link will work or not.

Hi TYO,
The Sneaky Pete as stated by the others is indeed a popper. These poppers are available in either a kit which includes hooks and popper bodies or as just the popper boddies. Both types of kits come with complete instructions. The ones I have used are available in most fly shops and made by Perfect Poppers. They are not difficult to put together at all. If you keep the pointed end towards the hook eye, you will have the Sneaky Pete but if you reverse it and place the pointed end towards the hook you will have a cup-face popper…sort of a 2-fer deal! The ones I have used in the past are a hard body foam but I think they are also available in balsa wood as well. Good luck and have fun building these. They are great for gills and bass too.

Hate to rain on everyone’s parade, but the Sneaky Pete is a fly w/propeller-type spinner attached.

RG,
Nope!..the “propeller” fly is a PISTOL Pete. Another pretty effective fly.
