Snakes are out

Even sadder are when the poor Queen Snakes get killed. They are far more slender that cottonmouths and are the only species of water snake around here that are docile. I am often accompanied by them when I fish. Sometimes they stay very close, as long as they are in the water and near rocky cover. I think that they are curious about me. I sometimes anthropomorhosize them and think of them as being friendly and hanging out with me.

take care,
Ed

I use Ray’s Rule of thumb, it’s very simple. 4’ snake requires an 8’ stick!!

Ray, you have a good thumb.

It is a great feeling to be back and reading posts from this forum. Not done any fishing lately but I felt some better tonight so I decided to go to this forum. Saw posts on snakes and thought I would throw this one at you. Was burning bulldozer push stacks this week at oldest son’s house. Stacks are located near an underwater spring branch. I decided I would take it easy and look for those no shoulder critters. Glad I did. I found and killed a 50 inch long copperhead. I knew when I saw it that it was close to a state record (Mississippi) so I checked and the state record is 52 inches. I came within 2 feet of stepping on the fellar. Becareful for them no shoulder critters. mathcarver

Havent seen any snakes as of yet, but saw a nice sized snapper when I had my son out fishing for crappies, its head was about the size of a softball
