Smith's Orange Tag SBS

A pretty, basic fly from New Hampshire tyer Ora Smith; the folded wing sequence came from Davie McPhail.

hook - Mustad 79580 #6
thread - Danville 6/0 black
tag - Uni-Stretch orange
rib - small wire gold
body - peacock herl
hackle - brown saddle
wing - bronze mallard

Part 1

mash barb, start thread, tie in tag at bend; wrap tag down and back, tie off/trim

tie in rib

tie in (folded) hackle by tip

tie in peacock

wrap peacock, tie off/trim; leave about 1 eye width free up front (changed out the original hackle for one not quite as dense)

palmer hackle forward, sweeping fibers back

counterwrap rib, helicopter end, cover with thread

separate a segment of bronze mallard fibers (2 needed)

Part 2

stack them on top of each other, measure (tips just past bend), fold with pinch

wax the **** out of your thread, pull straight down to crush the fibers on top; add a few more wraps to lock the wing in place

trim butts, whip finish, SHHAN
