This is a heads-up to you Smallmouth fly fishers. There is a good little article in the current (Sept. 2005) FLY FISHERMAN magazine by Dave Whitlock on nymphing for Smallmouths.

Harry W. Murray has a great article in the new American Angler, too. The topic this time is fishing wood effectively for smallmouth bass.
The previous issue of FF has the first of the 4 part series by Whitlock on SMB. It was on top water SMB fishing and was exellent of course.
I just got Whitlock’s Guide to Aquatic Trout foods. It really has cleared up my understanding of insect life cycles and how they pertain to a fish’s diet. Much of the information is applicable to SMB etc. I highly reccomend it.
