Yesterday, I snorkled in one of my favorite lakes. I saw some nice gills and crackers (big males) on beds. I went back this evening to the beds and tried to catch a few but had no luck. I did catch 10 small 7" gills/crackers (females) “trolling” my kickboat with a “bully spider” and a couple of split shots. The fish were suspended over the deepest water in the 3 acre lake.
Thanks for the report. Sometimes, when they are on the beds, they are only interested in running off egg-eating varmints. The only real way to hook one is to p*$$ it off by repeatedly dragging the fly right through the bed. I don’t really enjoy that as an angling method.
