Is there anyone selling small feathers for small (14-18) streamers? I’m tired using larger feathers and then having to chuck the remainder of the feather.
That should be size 14-18 streamers.
What colors are you looking for? I have capes and saddles that will go down to a size 28. If send me an e-mail with your address and colors I wills send you a few hackles to hold you over. darter2020@yahoo.com
Thanks for the offer, but I’m really looking for a source that I can purchase the smaller feathers at a reasonable price.
I understand that, I could send you a cape or saddle. wich ever I have in the color you would need. Depending on the size and color I would charge you less then any fly shop. For example I have a white neck with larger sizes down to size 28 I would let you have for say $10 including shipping charge. I have several colors I could send to you. Let me know and we can work it out. I don’t tie small flies and would be willing to part with some of my stock of feathers.

give Denny a call, he is a sponser on this site, Connranch hackle. Denny is a great guy to deal with and can set you up with what you need and a fair price. Denny is also a very good tyer so is very easy to talk to, check it out just go to the sponsers page and klick on his site.
Ghost.
You can also try the Metz packs in small size at Cabela’s.
Look at using Hen Capes for those small streamers. Ron
hobo,
Did I read you right? A #18 …STREAMER??
Man, I thought I’d gone small enough with some #12 Clouser-style streamers.
What hooks do you prefer, what streamer pattern do you use on such a tiny streamer and what fish do you tie 'em for? Just curious.
Jeremy.
hoboflyfisher, try Denny’s JV Hens. I use them for small wooly buggers and matukas.
Thanks to all for the info on locating small feathers. I plan on checking out some of the suggestions.
Jeremy, I take my streamers down to sz 18 and use them for Gills and bass. I tie them on Daiichi 4x-Long Streamer Hooks # 2200 to size 16. I tie very small bugger down to a sz. 18 also in blacks, olive, brown and white with sparkle added to the fly. They work great on trout also. My midges I tie to sz 28 using Daiichi Hooks also. My way of thinking is fish eat a lot of small critters all the time and only larger critters sometimes no matter the size of the fish. I fish a lot under the water and in the sub-surface mostly, and drys when hatches are on. Hope this is of help.
Hobo,
Thanks, it certainly makes good sense to me! I totally agree with you that fish eat LOTS more of the smaller stuff (eg midges etc.) than we give them credit for. In fact in one book I’ve read someplace, it mentioned that due to midge’s being so prolific, that trout especially, eat them as a mainstay of their diets! Hmmm…
Thanks. I’ll look into those hooks AND streamers. I’m a hook junkie to tell you the truth. Part of the addiction…
Also, ever since a recent intensity with bamboo has taken hold in a horrible way, I’ve become much more of a topside boy than I ever imagined before. I used to do an awefull lot of nymphing. Now I have trouble … unless I swing soft hackles!
Thank you,
Jeremy.
