small dry fly

I tried my hand at a size 24 mosquito pattern. The problem is I don’t have any Moose,
So I used black bear and elk. Any opinions on how I did?

I’d say let the fish be the judge:D

I’ve only been tying for a little less than a year now but I’ve found the fish are far less picky than I am.

Fly size and presentation seem to my limited experience to be more important than how “accurate” the fly is to the design in the pattern books.

I’ve caught fish on some pretty ugly flies that were approximately the same size and shape as what the fish were eating.

I’d have to agree with Jeff. I haven’t been tying very long, and just as a hobbie, but I’ve used stuff like foam that comes in electronic packed items, pipe cleaners, jig skirt materials, craft feathers from walmart … just to name some items that can be found just about anywhere. There not really “pretty” but I have alot of success with surface terrestrial flies, small streamers and poppers. Wine bottle corks make great poppers too

streamers and poppers do very well in some of the ponds and lakes in my area, so this is what I try to stick with. I don’t trout fish so I can use larger flies.

Bunzo,

On a fly that small, it really doesn’t matter. I just use black and white thread for the body. Handling hair on a fly that small is way too much effort for me.
