Slowing down and taking it easy. The fiberglass revolution sails over seas.

Well I guess us glass lovers couldn’t keep the secret to ourselves forever. Here is a few pics of the latest Lamiglas fly rod I’ve made for an over seas customer; a Gentleman who imo has exquisite taste in tackle and is a serious fan of the Lamiglas “honey” blanks.

All of the components and grip style were selected by the customer.

Pearsall’s Jasper thread and red banded Agate stripping guide.

There was some mist blowing in the air when I took the pics, so what looks like dust on the wraps is actually water/mist

Ferrule is wrapped with white thread…rust red spiraled over. The white silk thread turned water clear when the finish was applied.

REC nickel silver down locking reel seat with Box Elder spacer.

Hook keeper wrapped like the ferrules

I’m terrible at taking pictures of the whole rod but this is what she looks like.

that’s just beautiful.
nice to see someone actually call jasper thread by its proper name.

Gypsy,

While using the term “exquisite taste” and fiberglass so close together almost made me spill my dinner…that rod is one beautiful piece of work! My sincere compliments…

And yeah, I know I’m treading a thin line line here but please take it w/tongue in cheek…I’m just toying around.

Well, sorta…

Nevertheless, that’s a beautiful bit of rodmaking right there. All of it. You did a super job.

Jeremy…a bamboo boy.

Gypsy -

That is an extraordinary piece of rod building - for sure.

John

Gypsy…nice build. Orange and black…one of my favorite twists. PS your a heck of a lot better picture taker than me…wish I could get pics that clear. …Again Nice job…Ed

that has to be the finest rod i’ve ever seen!

Dang!! That there is the very model i plan on building. I might as well use a broom handle now. Mine will never hold a candle to that magic wand.

Gypsy, what finish did you use on the threads? Your work is excellent!

Greg

Those ferrule & hook keeper wraps are simply stunning. The whole rod is nothing less than exceptional. Great work.

Leo C

Thanks everyone. The thread is finished with Flex Coat epoxy. Jasper was color preserved first.

Jeremy it might surprise you to know that I build quite a few glass rods for some very serious bamboo fishers/collectors. In fact the bamboo guys are great because when they 1st cast a glass rod they say something like “omg it’s so slow…I love it”

Where a guy/gal who has been fishing graphite their whole lives might say “it’s so slow, probably can’t cast more than 50 feet with this thing”. But eventually the slow charm of glass rods wins them over.

Thanks again everyone. Crook33 I bet you fly rod will turn out just fine.

I’m sure it will be a useable tool, but never a piece of art like that one. Thanks just the same and please keep showing us your work.

Rich

Gypsy is a pretty modest guy. Too modest so I’ll put it up-
http://gypsyrodworks.com/
One of the best rod builders I’ve ever seen. He is meticulous in his work and puts a lot of thought in a build from the guides, wrap colors and color combinations, reel seats and grips.
Mark, once again another work of art.
(Post the McFarland you did with the 161 YLI silk wrappings.)

Alan

Ha! Thanks Mojo. Art? Well if we can call working with thread and glue art than I’m all for it! When our 5 year old daughter sees me wrapping a rod she never fails to remind me that they have thread and glue in kindergarten also. And their scissors are bigger than mine!

The McFarland with Granger Green wraps was a cool one to do.

Real nice looking work Gypsy. I like the color combo on the Mcfarland a lot. I meet Mike at the Expo last year and his blanks are just fantastic looking. I may have to try one of them for myself in the near future.

Steve

Beautiful! Beautifully beautiful!!

WOW! Very beautiful, I really like the way the wraps look.

That’s not just a fly rod , it’s a work of art. Wow!

That’s really pretty!

As Wayne and Garth would say “we are not worthy” Tell me that the writing is a decal and not actually written on in pen. If that’s hand written I’m really impressed. Haven’t seen penmanship like that since Sister Bernice tried to get us to do it in third grade.

It’s a decal, Sister Bernice wouldn’t have been to impressed with my penmanship.
