Hi,
I just tried tying superhair Clouser’s, and found that my sissors slip a bit on it on the superhair. I use small Metz sissors with tiny serations.
Can anyone recommend sissors to get a clean cut on superhair?
Thanks,
John

I’ve been tying with the super hair and unique hair lately, and have switched over to a larger pair of sissors for this material. it may not be the sissors but how you use them, do not use the tips of the sissors as this is a rather tough material. always make the cut useing the base down towards the pivot point. like you should when cutting wire, save the point for cutting finer materials. hope this helps…
do what u like, like what u do
John,
Super hair is basically a hard monofilament.
What is causing it to ‘slip’ in your scissors is how the fibers react to being compresssed against EACH OTHER rather than the scissors you are using. When you push down on a pile of this stuff, because of it’s inherent slickness, and, combined with those little waves that they mold into it, it wants to move around trying to find a resting point.
So, if you spread it out so that it’s flat BEFORE you cut it, then it will cut just like any piece of mono.
Some other ‘tricks’ with this stuff. It’s slick and can pull out from under the wraps easier than bucktail or softer materials. Pull out a bunch thats half as thick as you’ll want, but twice as long. Tie it in in the midlle, then fold it back over itself and finish wrapping it in place. Can’t pull out that way.
This stuff is bad for ‘wicking’ or sucking head cenment or other glues up the fibers. Be careful with applying coatings to the wraps on this stuff.
If you have a need of a lot of it in the same length, you can ‘pre cut’ it by putting it in a plastic zip lock baggie (put the fibers in the baggie, leave them sticking out the open end, push one end into the bottom of the bag, then spead the fibers out flat in the bag) and cut to length using one of those old lever blade paper cutters. Fast and a clean cut.
Great material for Clousers.
Good Luck!
