Silvey's Sub-merger Caddis SBS

An Elk Hair modified to imitate a diving caddis; change colors/size to suit your needs.

hook - Dai Riki 320 #14
thread - MFC 8/0 sand
body - Zelon dubbing hydropsyche (hare’s ear would work fine, too)
bead - 2.5mm gold
wing - mule deer
flash - Midge Krystal Flash rootbeer
hackle - partridge

Part 1

mash barb, slide on bead; start thread, wrap to bend

dub thread/dub body (bead should be 1 hook eye width back from eye); half hitch x 2, SHHAN

re-start thread in front of bead; jam it tight against dubbed body

clean, stack, measure (tips to bend) a clump of deer hair; tie in

tie in KF; fold back/tie down

Part 2

prep partridge, tie in by tip; sweep fibers back while winding, tie off/trim

half hitch x 2, SHHAN, trim head, trim KF

Scott

Very nice. Brian Silvey sure has come up with some interesting patterns. Of course, I usually just sink a Elk Hair Caddis if I need such a fly, but like the idea of adding a designated pattern as well.
