I just received a “Sierra Outdoors” catalog and wondered if anyone has any experience buying from them. They seem to have good prices. Any advice is appreciated.
? Sierra Trading Post ?
If you mean Sierra Trading Post it is GREAT. I bought several Dr. Slick items recently from them for a fraction of retail, scissors, hemos, etc. Their shipping is very reasonable and they are quick.
Sierra Outdoors is the title of the catalog Sierra Trading Post just sent out with there out door gear.
I have ordered a rod and some dubbing from them, it was delivered quickly and as advertised.

I have bought from Sierra Trading Post over the last 5 or 6 years. I have never been disappointed.

I think the savings percentage is sometimes a bit opimistic on their part.
Some slippers that my wife wanted for christmas were the same price at both Cabela’s and 'Beans … not on sale.
I smile a self satisfied little smile when I wear the silk longjohns I bought from Sierra. One of the simple pleasures of winter.
I got free shipping on the last item I ordered from them and it arrived in plenty of time for Santa to put it into my husband’s stocking.
Dudley,
The savings percentage varies and is based on retail cost. Yes can can often find things the same price elsewhere.
I have purchased some flyfishing gear at 40-70 percent off including a couple of rods, though mostly I purchase clothing there.
The company acquires overstock and discontinued items in bulk from vendors or manufacturers that don’t want to deal with the product themselves.
Don’t get me wrong 'loop. I’ve been dealing with them since the catalog was on news print.
But,as a long time customer I can tell you that some of their “super special” deals ain’t that super.
Thanks to everyone for their advice. It is appreciated.
I’ve bought plenty from them. They get plenty of closeouts from Orvis (search their site by vendor) plus right now they have some nice Sage stuff, etc. Sometimes you can get the same price elsewhere (like the Redington closeout rods) so like anything else, comparison shop if it’s important for you to get the best price.
I’ve also bought blankets from them at closeouts for big discounts and then donated the blankets to local charities that were asking for blankets. They have more than just fishing gear.
