It works pretty slick. A small seam ripper works as well.
My mom could have taught me that, unfortunately my wife does not crochet. I use an electrical test clip.
Watch second hand shops. Crochet hooks show up there and at yard sales.
Learned to do it with two or 3 pheasant tail fibers.
