I’ve given Feather Craft the acid test. I sent them an order for $150 worth of small fly tying stuff including hooks, threads, cards of chenille, dubbing, a pair of scissors, rubber legs etc. I’ll keep you posted on speed and completeness when I receive it. They did have a very nice computer interface for shoping and ordering. 8T
Problem 2
I too have a problem with the frequency that I find items “back ordered” AND their policy on ( not ) filling back orders. It is up to the purchaser to constantly call them about the status of an item that you may want - and if you “forget” they just never fill the item and don’t inform you.
I still may place an order with them in the future BUT there are equally good alternatives out there.
Strange. I’ve had the opposite happen to me. They will call me about a backorder situation, and ask me if I still want the item. I’ll usually say yes, and just not worry about it. I will get it when I get it. I have forgotten about long backorders, and thay have called me to ask me if I still want the item. Usually it’s a very nice lady, and she’ll make note of my preference…then I eventually get it when I get it.
Very nice people, and it’s always a treat to talk to Ed.
I’ll second all the kudos to FC. Also want to relate a recent mail order experience with Kauffmanns Streamborn. I’ve ordered from them before, since they always seem to have that one “odd” item I can’t live without. Anyway, this was one of those $50 orders with a bunch of $1.95 items, one of which was a pack of 3d stick-on eyes. I’d forgotten to put the color eyes on the order, so this guy calls me and asks and then ships it out same day. How simple(but rare).
Besides my previous “two thumbs up” for FC; I’ll ditto on Kauffmann’s too. I ordered a new Hardy Featherweight last week since Kauffmann’s still had them at the old “too expensive” price, not the new “ridiculous” price.
(Pssst…(whispering): If you want a Hardy Lightweight Series reel for $100 less than what 99% of other retailers are charging; order today before they change the prices to reflect the increase)
First they honored the posted price; which by the way many online retailers will NOT if the manufacturer has increased prices. They will tell you they haven’t had a chance to update their website or they are out of stock. While this tactic is illegal; good luck proving it.
Second they had the reel dropped shipped from Cortland and anxiety about it arriving AFTER Christmas was a moot point.
End result, much to my delight I got to use it on Tuesday!
It’s not surprising to hear good reports about Kaufmann’s Streamborn. Been dealing with them since the 70’s and they are first class. Also their Stimulators are the best!

Still my favorite mail order company… The quality of their tyeing materials is always top notch no matter what I’ve ordered…Can’t say that of any others…Great service too!
