Sherbrook's La Velo Grise SBS

Minimum materials, maximum loops; I’m guessing a caddis of some sort. Original calls for white-tipped goose for the wings; got none of that but did find some mallard that provides a similar effect (he does mention that all grey works fine, too).

hook - Dai Riki 075 #8
thread - MFC 8/0 sand
body/head - pheasant aftershaft feathers
hackle - guinea
wing - mallard

Part 1

mash barb; start thread, wrap to bend, create the first (of several) loop

insert aftershaft in loop; spin

wrap, tie off/trim thread loop

repeat, as needed (3 used on this hook size) 'till you reach the 3/4 mark

Part 2

prep guinea feather, tie in by tip, take a few wraps; tie off/trim

snip a section of mallard quill (gap width) from matching feathers

tent over the hook (tips just past the bend); tie in, trim butts

one more time with the loop/aftershaft

Part 3

wrap, tie off/trim, whip finish, SHHAN

Hey Scott,

Very interesting fly!

I will be sure to tye some small versions for my local trout.

But what is even more interesting is that I live in the Sherbrooke region , is there a particular reason that you reference Sherbrooke, and use the french name?

Do you have the history of the fly? or is it your creation ?

If it indeed came from Quebec, do you know which rivers it was fished on in the Sherbrooke region?

Do you originate from la belle province?

Take care,
Chris

Chris,

The creator is Belgian tyer Geert Webrouk; he uses the alias geraldsherbrook on a number of forums. Not sure of the origin of the pattern; it may just be the product of a very talented and creative mind.

Scott

ps - alas, I was born and raised in Baltimore
