Sherbrook's Copperbody SBS

A few mods to the original; kind of a Belgian Copper John. In honor of Turkey Day (and lack of peacock quill) I subbed turkey for peacock quill wing and tail; unsure of what hackle was used, but the India hen I had seemed to go well with the wing.

hook - Dai Riki 075 #8
thread - Danville 6/0 black
butt - brassie wire copper
tail - turkey quill
body - medium wire hot orange
hackle - India hen
wing - turkey quill

Part 1

mash barb, start thread, tie in wire, wrap to barb

wrap wire forward to tie in, using resistance from hanging bobbin to keep the wraps (somewhat) tight; helicopter end, cover with thread

tie in orange wire; wrap to point

prep a pair of turkey quill segmenst (about 3/4 gap width); measure (shank length), fold, pinch, tie in, trim butts, smooth underbody with thread wraps

Part 2

wrap wire forward, helicopter end, cover with thread

repeat sequence used for tail with slightly wider (gap width), quill segments, tips to tail

Part 3

tie in (folded) hackle by tip

wrap hackle, tie off/trim, whip finish, SHHAN (multiple coats)

Regards,
Scott

There is SOMETHING about this bug that is very appealing. Gonna have to try some. Spring smolts (planters) and smallies on the Russian and the current crappie and BG’s at Clearlake come to mind. Looks like a good “depthcharge” bug.
Thanks Scott…
