Fred…its hard to tell from the picture…at first I thought it was lead tape, but now I’m guessing it is that “gummy minnow” material?

Yes Dave it’s sili skin .I know it’s not fun to work with and its not looked upon kindly by most tyers but it does make an excellent shad imitation.

Looks alot like a Flutter Min - I remember seeing this fly used for bull gills in either Field and Stream or Out Life magazine in the late 70’s.
