Okay, I am sitting here looking at my catalogs tonight and see this Laser Dub stuff and it caught my eye. The pictures I am seeing of a finished fly, and the YouTube video I watched make it look very nice and easy to use.
I’m thinking about using it for some baitfish flies, and maybe some other applications. Does anyone here have much experience with it? Opinions? Pics of flies?
The other thing that caught my eye was the Senyo’s Shaggy Dub… But I need to get or build a dubbing brush “machine” to use that!
Anyhow, a little input would be much appreciated! Thanks!
Zac
just do it zac. you know the colors, you know the ties that work. no matter what anyone here says you’ll never know until you try. step out and try the adventure.
Wes, I know I know! It’ll happen, I just like to ask here and get a few opinions while I’m “ponderin”!
Skip, I’m thinking it could be interesting to try it as a collar or body on some jigs too…
Ducksterman, I think the shaggy dub is going to work best in a brush. Gonna be an absolute mess otherwise, if I’m looking at it right. It’s basically fine rubber leg material, which I don’t think would be too easy to handle in a regular dubbing loop. But I’ve been wrong before! (just ask my wife, she’ll tell ya!)
It’s good stuff. It has nice movement and sparkle. It blends in well with marabou and rabbit strips. I have tied up some small jig flies with it and used it to accent the heads of other flies.
Thought the same thing Zac and it just looks like something you can really play with on flies and make a bait fish for spring crappie. I need to get out there next spring with my fly rod and have some real fun.
I use the stuff all the time (well not the shaggy dub, the stuff sucks and falls out of dubbing loops). I use it for everything, baitfish, woolheads, bodys, wings and dubbing itself. I almost dont like using any other dub anymore.
