Caddis, hopper, general meat fly; whatever. Change color/size to suit your needs.

hook - Mustad 9671 #8
thread/rib - UTC 140 brown
body - deer hair
shellback - 2mm foam tan
head/overwing/legs - deer hair

Part 1

mash barb, start thread, leave tag end long and finish at eye

clean, stack, measure (hook length) a clump of deer hair; trim butts, take 2 soft wraps, tighten and let it spin

taper foam strip; tie in

create loop

Part 2

clean a clump of deer hair, even butts, insert in clip; trim, insert in (waxed) loop, trim/spin

wrap deer hair, tie off/trim trim top

pull foam forward; tie off/trim

rib body; tie off/trim

push deer hair back

Part 3

hold deer hair back; spin bobbin to tighten thread, take 2 soft loops, gradually tighten while maintaining pinch on deer hair

trim out hair underneath

whip finish, SHHAN
