A Russian dashboard pattern; you could whip out a bunch of these in your Lada in the hour before the hatch starts. Added the CH underwing for a bit of sparkle.

hook ? Dai Riki 320 #14
thread/body - UTC 140 tan
shuck - deer hair butts
underwing - Congo Hair white
wing/head - deer hair

Part 1

mash barb, start thread

clean, stack, measure (shank + gap width) a clump of deer hair; tie in, pull tight but don’t release the butts so the hair stays on top of the shank

wrap the butts back to the bend

smooth out the body and tie in CH

move thread gap width back from eye, trim butts

pull deer hair back/on top, tie down

Part 2

whip finish, SHHAN all thread wraps, trim underwing even with tips

Something about this pattern really strikes a chord with me. Maybe it is the simplicity of it all. I am going to have to try it both as you have done it Scott and with Snowshoe hair outriggers like one of Planettrouts patterns(can’t remember the name right now but it is a standby for me)

I think I will try tying it with GSP in a light and a dark for caddis patterns. the GSP makes a nice smooth Waxy looking appearance.
