Saving natural hairs and furs?

I got a no pest strip at the grocery store, it was in a plastic cage to keep kids from eating it (and I didn’t care to touch it barehanded either).

I put on some latex gloves and took it out of the cage, cut a small piece, maybe 1/4" square and put it in with the pheasent skin - it had bad problems. Put the rest back in the cage, and put the cage in a box with all my feathers.

Never saw another bug - no more damage.

It can happen fast.

I had a cape in a sealed ziplock baggy that was fine. I noticed some damaged feathers, and a week later it was dust and maggots, with what looked like miniature caddis flies in a swarm over the box.

No more problems - it has been months now.

And thanks for the welcome Bill, I have been reading for 2 years or so - just not much to say - much to read.

Take Care -
Jim

It is just that they are shedding their winter coats right now and there is plenty of hair there for the taking. Though I suppose I could just go get some when I get ready to tie. Which leads me to an interesting thought, I wonder if a fly with fleas would catch more fish than a fly without fleas? Little fleas kicking around underwater, could lead to more action. lol
