Neat little bead head from Scott Sanchez that’s worked pretty well wherever Yellow Sallies crawl, molt, drift, exist. Another quick and easy tie; doesn’t hurt too bad to lose one if you fish it among the rocks.
hook - Dai Riki 060 #12-16 (tied this on the #12 for clarity’s sake)
thread - Uni 8/0 camel
sides/tail - goose biot brown
body - spanflex/flexi-floss yellow
rib - copper wire (fine)
collar - hares ear dubbing
hackle - Indian hen back
head - 7/64 brass bead
Part 1
Mash barb and slide bead on hook
start thread; tie down spanflex & wire
wrap back to hook bend and take thread back to the front
wrap spanflex to front, back and front to build up body, then trim
tie in biot at head on far side (let the tip extend a bit longer than the hook gap)
and near (trim butts)
hold the biots against the side of the body and start wrapping the rib forward
I will be giving that a try, it appears to be simple to tie, although my thumbs tend to add a level of complexity that does not exist for most people, and it matches the local bugs.
Hate to get off target, but have to ask where you fished the Ruby? I fished it WAY up where it was all public lands and the fish were tiny.
It looked much better down lower, but everywhere I looked it was posted as private.
It was about 6 years ago, so I’m not sure, and it was only for one day - I was with a guide. In the morning, we were in a crowded area but we got a “beat” to ourselves. It was in an area which I believe was downstream of the dam and near one of those rope bridges that hang in the air (I definitely remember going on that).
After lunch we went above the dam - passed Steven Segall’s place? Took pictures of Ted Turner’s Bison? (I think that was there). We went up there because I had a specific goal of catching a grayling - which I did!
