Salted Flys

The fly that you have on your line is not cutting it, it’s time to try something else.
So you take off that soggy, saltly fly.
But if you put it back in your fly box it will “infect” all the other flys with salt.
What do you do with it?
I tried a foam fly patch,…ripped that up pretty fast.
I’ve stuck 'em in my pocket,…they’re pointy.
Thrown them in the bottom of the shoulder bag,…the best thing to do if you want to lose them.
Now I carry a small plano box with holes drilled in it. It works but I’m still not happy.
What do you do?

Carry a heavy duty quart size zip lock bag and throw them in there.Rolls up nice and small. When you get home, put a couple of drops of soap in it and fill with warm water to clean them up.Works like a charm for me.

I use a Finsport wallet for my salty flies. The insides of the cover have foam attached where the infected flies go.

Seen me right so far.

i have a favorite fishing hat that has the words OKLAHOMA STATE embroidered across the top of it. i usually pin my flies into the lettering until they dry. i’ve found that i can put a #2 clouser on the hat, and not be bothered by it’s weight.

after they dry, i usually put them back in my box.

Hi dudley
I use the fleece trifold wallets. I tie with Mustaad stainless hooks usually the 34007 and have never had a problem.

Being lazy I never wash off the flys. Simply shake off the excess water and put it back in the wallet.

Now your not thinking about wet flys, so your ready when the big one takes the “right” fly.
