I am finally going to order my reel seat. I have a Scott A2 blank, 6wt, 4 piece. Was leaning towards a Struble U15HG. Not sure now. Kind of thinking about an American Tackle windowed seat, with a woven graphite insert. How do they compare to the Struble seats? Any other seat suggestions? I’ll be making a small fighting butt, using the rod for small stream smallmouth fishing, and in my local lakes for bass. Possibly some carp.
I usually use a Batson A7 on 6wts for salt. My favorite is the A7C-GWG-SG with a grey woven insert and gunsmoke finish. The A8 will work also, but I find it a little heavy for a 6wt. The American Tackle reel seat will also work. I haven’t used them myself, but I know others that use the AW12T and AW13T for saltwater reel seats.
I am also thinking about a REC RSLS.
I’ve used the U15HG on several switch rods and a 6 wt. single hand rod. I like this seat. Slim, double lock rings with inserts, hook grooves (thus HG), four colors and it even holds my old Medalist 1495. For about 25 bucks you can’t find a better quality seat. There are many fine choices so it’s hard to go wrong.
