Sage Xp 5wt - Best rod ever made?

Best nymphing trout rod I’ve ever fished by a wide margin. It will roll cast like nobody’s business. Not the best dry-fly rod I’ve ever fished, but a decent one. I rate it in the top 3 5-wts I’ve ever owned.

My 0.02$

(an Welcome SA to the board too) …

I use lots of rods (well a couple dozen anyway) and I also have the XP’s fom 4 to 9 wt up to 10 foots for trout to Salmon.

I personnaly like them very much, … but I’m far from an elegant caster.

They do the job. I have fun casting them.
I also had fun all weekend on the canadian thanksgiving casting some 60$ rods into a gale. No problem. … Just remember that the “high end” rods don’t make us better casters. They can exploit better the quality of a good cast. These “quick” rods can also unload in a flash if your casting stroke isn’t balanced.

In retrospect i shouldve headed my topic…Sage Xp 5wt - One of the best rods ever made?It seems the BoronIIx is on a par with the Xp…
Thanks for all the replies…i will probably get the Sage Xp

I don’t know if there can really be a “best” fly rod. As others have said, what makes a rod the “best”, is highly individual, what works well for you, may not work at all for me. I have cast many of the currently popular rods including the xp. but none of them work as well for me as my Gatti FR 905 PA. To each his (or her) own.

There is a fine line between fly fishing, and standing in the water waving a stick.
