Hi guys, i have a bit of a dilema. I want to buy a lightweight rod for small rivers and creeks but im not sure what size to choose from its going to be either a 2 or 3 weight.
I want to be able to throw out a tandem rig of a beadhead and dry. Also the tackling of wind issues will a 2wt be to light?
Please help!
I have a 4 weight TXL and love it,have cast a 3 weight at my fishing buddys flyshop and would have to say it was wonderful. The wind was not bad that day but it felt like it could handle itself pretty well as long as you kept casting within the rods design limits,by that I mean not trying to make real long casts.I took my son to get him a 3 weight and he liked the Sage V2 better than the TXL so that is what we got him.He thought the V2 was a little more suited to his casting style. His casting motion is quite a bit faster than mine.
DW,
The TXL line is a good one. I won a 00wt TXL on this very website a couple of years ago. I reviewed the rod and reel. Read it at: http://www.flyanglersonline.com/prorevw … wtrod.html
Even the little 00wt does quite well in the wind. Last week I visited a local lake for a little bluegill action. The wind was coming across the lake pretty good, but the rod handled it quite well. Caught a bunch of 'gills, too!!

Yea i guess ill get the 2wt then i want to go as light as possible without getting too many problems with fly weights etc.
Hello! How about a followup??? How do you like your new rod so far? Does it work with a dry and a dropper as you had hoped?
I’m also interested in a 2 wt. I’ve already test driven two…
TFO 8’ 2 wt 3 piece
Cabela’s LST 7’6" 2wt 2 piece
I then learned about the TXL. I’m really curious to know what the difference is besides the price…
I love my TXL 0 weight. It is amazing rod, and you would be surprised how it casts. I think I can cast it as well as a 4wt in the wind. It is super fun, but don’t get to use it much up here in AK. I am taking it with me to Chile, but am afraid it is a bit light for anything down there too, except for some small spring creeks maybe. I have caught up to a 18" rainbow on it though. It is totally a gas to cast…, I love that rod for small nymphs and drys. I used a dropper with it on the San Juan River in NM, a San Juan Worm or small egg for an attractor, and small size 22-24 midges dropped down 18". I forwent the strike indicator, and just watched the line for the strike. Sage Performance Taper is the only line I believe for the 0 weight.
Hello:
I assembled a TXL 1 wt. and it is a great rod. It will cast 10-50’ with no problem. It will also handle some wind. I fish size 16 and under midges, nymphs, dries and wets with this rod. It also handles the small foam bobbers for stillwater midging great. I have caught bass and trout up to 17" with no problems,I was able to land these fish in several minutes. As others have said the Quite Taper lines are the only the way to go with the TXL series. Light line rods are really a blast. Have fun selecting one.

thanks all for the responses i got a 7’10" 3wt TXL with a hardy marquis reel and cortland clear creek line. Its absolutly fantastic! The first day i took it out (yesterday) i managed to catch to 12" browns in a small stream. These rods are highly recommended.
Daz…gotta say this…you deserve most …if not all…of the credit
