RPL is a med fast all around taper, primarily fresh water with good light salt water performance, one of my old favorites.
RPLXi is designed for bigger game/salt water, fast action, butt section will turn a dump truck.

Good point! I probabaly should have clarified. Differences in action, casting charateristics and fish handling. I’m looking for a steelhead rod.

RPL+'s (which fall between the RPL and Xi) and Xi’s are both good steelie rods… I used to use RPL+'s as my big game rods for years, they have plenty of strength to turn big fish.
