S. A. S. H.

As in Simple Antron Soft Hackle. Started this fly, which I had not tied before two days ago, just like the J. A. Y. Thing, but instead of a loop wing and 9DH hackle, I used some grizzly soft hackle to create the wet fly. Fished it yesterday on my Northern Idaho freestone creek home water and got off to a gangbusters start - two fishies rising in some slow, clear water got all over it in the first few minutes. Not so great after that - only one more in that particular place even though there were a whole lot of fish rising to some hatch or another. But a while later, in another place that has given up bunches of fishies of late, and had obviously been fished hard not long before I got there, I did get a nice 17" cutthroat with it. That fish was probably the same one I’ve caught in virtually the same sport a couple times in the past week, and was the only one I got there yesterday.
