I recently won an auction which netted me some rubber camera armor for my Pentax K-10D. Thought I would share it with you so here are some photos. Click on the images for the larger view:
Installation was easy and pretty straight forward. I don’t know about the ability to protect the camera from drops although Pentax DSLR cameras are notoriously tough. Should do nicely to protect it from knocks and bumps while I am fishing or hiking.
Nice! Smooth, soft and cushioned. Grip feels really secure. Should improve the grip with wet hands, sweating or during light rain. It actually makes it easier for my arthritic hands to grip without adding lots of bulk or weight to the camera.
It does not cover the bottom of the camera but that is fine by me as it would hinder the use of a mount or add on battery grip if it did. Access to the menu buttons is good and the extra protection afforded them far outweighs having to push just a tad harder. The buttons like shutter release and levers you use most often are not covered for very easy access. Should improve the feel of the camera in cold weather as well.
I’ve been looking at that exact same armor on ebay for my Canon 20D. I asked on another site if anyone had used it but no one had. Couple questions for ya if you don;t mind nighthawk.
Are “all” the things you need to get too left open with the armor on. Such as not just the function buttons, but Battery/card door, access for cable to plug into from computer, and all that good stuff?
Do you notice any extra weight at all now or it is not that noticeable?
Any problem with getting the lens cap off with the larger Armor hood on the lens?
I’ve been seriously thinking about getting one myself for mine just so it’s not bouncing around in the drift boat but wanted to see how others liked it before I bought it.
All of the doors that cover the ports, battery and memory card access are uncovered. Also the the program knob, evaluation selection lever, focus selector lever, front and back E-value wheels, Shake reduction lever switch, focal point selection wheel, top LCD, IR remote ports (front and rear).
No noticeable weight increase. Matter of fact I really like the way this improves my ability to grip the camera of course I always use the neck strap when hand holding the camera.
The lens cap is easy to access with that large hood on the lens. The only drawback to that large hood is it interferes with the on-board flash. Easy to fix by simply removing the hood, use a tall hot-shoe flash or an external mounted/hand held flash.
I got this one on ebay with shipping it was $8.99 from Cameta Auctions (Cameta Camera). Here is a link the their store:
