There’s a very cool trick in Al and Gretchen’s book. On their vise the clamp part can also rotate. So you can take a fly and rotate the clamp which turns the hook from horizontal to vertical. Then you can tie a parachute hackle by spinning the vise.
I thought that was a nice technique.
