Hi there, can anyone tell me - does anyone make a removable roof carrier suitable for carrying a pontoon boat short distances? I know they are available for kayaks and I like the idea of it only being on the roof while it is in use but have not yet found one that will take a pontoon boat.
All the best.

Seems to me that I remember Jim Flamming just placing his 'toon backwards on the roof of his small car at the Michigan Fish-In last year, folding the seat down & strapping the 'toon down. No rack was needed.

Hi Mike, I did think about that but if I scratch the paint on the roof of my car I am sure my wife will ban me from ever useing the toon again! She sure does love that car.
All the best.

A suggestion that might work and is fairly cheap. A couple of pool noodles between the pontoon hull and the roof should do the trick. If you get the kind with a hole down the center you could run a rope through it and then secure them to the roof, then strap down the pontoon on top of the noodles. 8)
Standard roof rack i.e. “Thule” will do the job. It will separate the toon from the roof and provide plenty of places for straps. I used to carry a inflatable like that for a very short trips on the roof of the Neon. No scratches.
I like the pool noodle idea, it sounds great, thanks.

Thule and Yakima both make a wide variety of roof rack systems that can be added to pretty much any vehicle on the planet. Google for them or their dealers and you’l find a wealth of options, probably with a local dealer so you can see it in person.
