Thank you…it is a sad day…
Dear Maineguide,
I remember Ron fondly too. He used to post quite a bit on the Flyfisher’s Paradise message board as well as another local PA specific message board. He was always helpful to anyone who asked and he will be missed by many.
Sincerely,
Tim Murphy
I will miss Ron very much, he helped me many times on here. My Prayers go up for him and his family. John
Mainguide,
Thank you so much for telling us about Ron. He was a very honorable man and a credit to fly fishing.
Prayers go out to his family.
Doug
So sorry. I hate this.
Very sad. Ron will be dearly missed.
Many months ago, Ron and I traded messages, in which I found out that he was in a very bad way with his health. It was tough to read about his health problems and know he was in the middle of Montana with I didn’t know what kind of health care. I’m sure he was cared for but it bothered me. Ron was dignified and proud! He told me one of his (many) friends wanted to pay for a fishing trip for him, but he wouldn’t go for it. He told me about going to Armstrong Spring Creek (Mont.) I could sense he was losing his grip on the old days when he could fish and fish! Ron was a talented fly tier and I think he worked hard at it!
I’m sorry I didn’t get to fish with you Ron!
Rest In Peace,
Doug
I knew him only through this board - but he felt like a friend. So sad.
Heartfelt prayers to his family.
Is there any way we can at least send a card or something to his wife (?) from his net friends on FAOL?
Ron was one of the most knowledgeable and experienced tiers to contribute to this board. His instructions for tying the elk hair caddis and catskill style drys were based on learning directly from and tying for Al Troth and the Dettes. That kind of experience combined with a lot a of good common sense will surely be missed here.
Very sad indeed. I recall his posts…informative, friendly, helpful. Although I didn’t know him personally, I envisioned him as a gentleman whose contributions were truly intended as a means to share knowledge. In my mind, he was a brilliant angler. How lucky for us that he chose to shed some light and share his respected opinion on so many topics here. A certain loss for the board, not to mention all who knew him well.
So sad to hear this news. My thoughts go out to his family.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Ron’s family.
This is Not what I wanted to read tonite!!
He has had a large influence on me as have several people around here.
He will be greatly missed by all.
All good replies. I never met Ron but we conversed with him on a trip through Mt. and unfortunately didn’t get to meet up. I have had Ron do 6-7 dozen flies for me when I first got to know him and even a batch just last winter, all of which I still have… He was an excellent tier! Excellent!!
He had much trouble with his health and I’ll always remember him for being such a gentleman on boards. He was always a gentleman…even during some “downer” and testy posts.
I was just only trying to find an address to give him a call a couple weeks ago because I feared this due to his not posting for a long time. I will miss him too.
Jeremy.
This is truly a shame. I never got to meet Ron either, but he was always so helpful when it came to answering questions about tying, particularly with regards to Catskills. His knowledge was truly encyclopedic.
A sad day for the flyfishing, and especially flytying, community.
He will be missed for the person he was on this site.
Rick
He will truly be missed.
