OK, let’s go ahead and get signed up here. Time for the 2009/2010 rod swap. We’re going to do things a bit differently this time, but it shouldn’t be too difficult.
Everyone is going to order their own parts using 1 of 2 ordering lists. All rods will be built on the same 8’ 5/6 wt fiberglass 2 piece blank with a full wells grip, 2 foot wire snake guides, and a wire hook keeper. The only difference between the 2 sets is that one has a graphite seat with silver hardware, and the other uses a black aluminum seat with black hardware. The difference between the 2 is approximately $3. Your parts kit should be shipped to you for $43 or $46. (This doesn’t include your finishes, glue or thread.) The only real differences you should see in the rods should be thread color and technique.
You need to order your parts and complete your rod by February 1. On February 1, I will send you the name of a fellow swapper to send your rod to.
Sign up here, and keep us informed with your progress. You have 5 months to do this, so be sure you don’t forget about this project. If you have questions/concerns, be sure to post them here. We’ll be happy to help out.
Here is the list: http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/album.php?albumid=73&pictureid=540
I’ll send you both a PM with the 2 ordering lists. Please let me know if you find any discrepancies. Thanks.
I have included 8 guides in each kit. If you want an extra, you can add one. Also, for the black kit, I included a size .400 winding check. That may need sized down 1 size to be sure it is safe. Or you can omit it if that is your taste. I’ll try to get a measurement off of mine tonight or tomorrow to be sure.
Ask if you have questions. Just remember, you have 5 months, so go slow and take your time. And pack your thread wraps. And most importantly, HAVE FUN! You are one of us now…
You are all in.
I just ordered my kit. I’m going with the A16/black hardware version. My last swap rod was built with black and silver wraps, but I’m going to be a bit bolder on this one. I’ve found some cobalt metallic thread at the local sewing store. I love the cobalt color, and the metallic version looks like it could be stunning. I have a second blank that I’m going to build for myself, and it will probably have the same color on it.
GASP!! You started this one while I am out of town!! Can’t even down load any thing here … so … please sign me up for this swap! I’ll get the information when I get home in a week ( or so). Thanks Greg!!!
I was assuming that you were in, Betty. And I knew you’d have plenty of time to finish up your vacation and build the rod by February. Ya know we wouldn’t leave you out.
Glad you signed up with us.
Still laughing!!! Here it is, almost two weeks after joining this swap, that I “confessed” my sign up to Cary. Shaking his head, very slowly back and forth, he just quietly turned, threw his hands in the air, and walked out on my office!
In this case, you use one of the packages from the ordering list. That way everyone is working with the same materials and has the same cost involved with the rod. The only real variable will be wrapping/finishing/construction. I think it will be fun to see where everyone ends up using basically the same components. Posting pictures of your project will be highly encouraged.
The 2 ordering lists give you the option of black or silver hardware. The black hardware includes an aluminum seat, and the silver has a graphite seat. Other than that they are identical. The blank can only be ordered from this vendor (Janns), because it is a house label, and I haven’t seen anyone else with a similar product. Otherwise, I would have used a site sponsor. The list I posted has ordering numbers and everything you will need to build the rod.
