rod repair (if needed)

Hello gents,
I noticed one of my fly rods has a little piece where the enamel peeled a little bit, it doesn’t seem like it was hit in that area.
Is there a way to repair this, would this affect the rod?
Thanks a lot.

I would think it would have to be seen, Martin.
I have rod varnish, but not enamel. Maybe it could be as simple as a little dab’l do ya.
Dad and I would touch up as needed, when needed. With 5 kids, he couldn’t run to a shop all the time. So we did a lot of DIY.
I still do a lot of DIY.

Maybe The Fisherman’s Spot could help you? Really great folks there.

Well, whatever helps. I really don’t know much about fly rod building so I wasn’t sure if it was enamel or varnish. I’ll either take it to the fly shop or show it to ya if we ever meet. But I hear you on that, with twin boys in the terrible two’s and a 5 years old princess it’s not easy to run to the fly shop very often.

Thanks for the info.

Martin is it just a spot on the blank itself (not the wraps) where the color has come off? if so then as long as there’s no crack/chip/stress marks on the blank then it’s just a cosmetic issue and I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

If you have a close up pic that would help a lot.

Steve

hello MCFR, I did give it a closer check and there is no sign of crack/chip/stress. I took this pic but you can barely see it, it’s very small, I guess that’s a good sign.

I took my fly rod to the fly shop and the guys told me it’s nothing to worry about, it’s pretty much in the surface. Thank goodness.

Thanks
