Rod Components

Hi
Need advice on which rods components to use?

I’d like to get a custom rod built, the blank will be a Sage Z-axis 9 foot 8 wt. 4 piece. I’ll be useing the rod for Atlantic Salmon and Steelhead.

Cheers

Keep all parts lite… you will love it!

Talk to the builder. You two work it out. You want light- go titanium guides & tip top, graphite reel seat.
You want it pretty- See Golden Witch. http://www.2computerchicks.com/Merchant … ry_Code=RM

Hello Ralph, check out one of FAOL’s sponsors at http://strublemfg.com/ I think you’ll find the reelseat you need among the many offered there for all weights and sizes of fly rods. Really high quality stuff too ! Take a look at the Struble U21 and U22 titanium reel seats while at the site. Hope this helps.

Oops…that was for you FrankyV, excuse the misdirection Ralph !

On the 8 wt I built I used a Struble U15. Its a small “big game” seat with fixed fighting butt, a Hook and Hackle house brand full well grip.
I put 3 strippers on it…a 12,10 and 8 and single foot oversize guides. It’ll throw a mile of line.

J.C. is absolutely right! I had the opportunity to cast and use the Z-Axis 8 wt… Heaven! Now I need to save my allowance

Thanks for the great advice

A master builder will build the rod for me and he will use only the best components (Struble /Titanium)

cheers

It occured to me a little while ago that every rod builder who’s shops I’ve visited or that I have spoken with on the phone seem to be in agreement that Struble also has the finest cork grips on the market today. :)) Thought you might want to know.
