What of the Rocky Ford bunch. Any reports or pictures out there. I wish I could have joined you.
I heard the Coast Guard and several sled dog teams had been dispatched, with bottles of Scotch and a stick for Lady…
What a great way to ring in the new year. fishing and spending time with great friends!
Seven of us showed up to brave the cold and snow, looking for that first fish of the year. A few fish were hooked and at least one landed. No frozen guides as the temps hovered just above freezing and were quite comfy.
Hot coffee and goodies to eat back at the trucks. The dog had a great time sniffing out birds and chasing a “Grown In Idaho” stick.
Good times, gonna have to do it again next year!
Sorry we didn’t make the trip. We’re getting ready to send VEE over to Yakima for her Grandmothers funeral. Between the airline tickets, food and lodging for her six day stay, we couldn’t afford the Rocky Ford trip.

Steve,
Did that stick happen to come from the St. Joe River?
Joe,
The dog has a stick collection of better size then all my fly rods. In 09 she chased and saved sticks from WA, OR, ID, MT, UT and CO. She loves them all and is always happy to retrive any one of them. Better yet, she is always happy to go back to everywhere we fished and collect more!
But alas, she is ten years old (thats 70 in human years, just like Jack) and all them birds she chased today wore here out. She is curled up on her bed in the living room snoring. What a great fishing dog.
Cool! My dog snores too. Louder than my wife.
One of my fondest memories of Lady was tossing her one favorite particular stick at the campground. Then the next year we went I arrived two days before anyone else then Steve and His friend, Foo I think it was, were the next of the FAOL bunch to show up that year and of course Lady was with them. As Steve began setting up the camper jacks and generally getting things ready Lady ran off a short way and came back with the same stick from last year. I think she had stashed it under the picnic table. Steve and I both noticed that it was the very same one she had played with the year before. Who says dogs aren’t smart??
Gnu Bee,
