Ripple hitch.

I was watching “Fishing with Mark Krupa” last night on TV. Mark’s guide suggested he tie his fly on with a a ripple hitch so that the fly would ride sideways in the river. He very briefly held the hitch up, you couldn’t actually see what it looked like. Has anyone heard of a ripple hitch. They might have said a riffle hitch. I couldn’t really tell as loud background river noise was going on.

Hello GBF, I’m pretty sure it’s called a ‘riffling’ hitch and it’s simply a half hitch added just behind the eye of the fly after tying the tippet to fly knot of choice. Hope that helps you.

Here is a link that describes it.

As far as I know it was “developed” in Newfoundland for Atlantic salmon though it is probably used for other species as well.

I hope this helps.

Tied correctly it will make a fly ride nose up in the water. I’ve used it to make elk-hair caddis patterns “skitter” across the surface without submerging.

Hmm … The ole Riffle Hitch.

Not many people use it on my waters.

Actually, … I guess that’s OK, … 'cause it doesn’t work here

Thanks guys, just what I was looking for.

fcch lol
